Experience

"Working with someone as they grow and blossom, become more themself, is a truly wonderful and privileged experience"

I have worked since 1976 in the field of counselling, social work and psychotherapy. I am able to work longer term with clients to bring about resolution of lifelong personal issues or to do short term assessment with conflict resolution and problem identification. Resolution can be achieved with employment issues and colleague conflict. I am able to work with people involved in Trauma or critical incidents within the workplace.

As I have participated in numerous training opportunities, workshops and seminars as well as more formal training I am able to draw from my experience with various therapies including relationship therapy, basic TA, Gestalt, psychodrama, client centred and self psychological models as well as using, art, dreams and poetry within a developmental conversational model of Psychotherapy. I have also had my own therapy/psychotherapy.

I have some knowledge of the Deaf community and NZ sign language. I enjoy mentoring and supervising other therapists and have supervised counsellors and psychotherapists in training as well as therapists in private practice. I have also worked with a number of voluntary agencies. As a committee member of the Canterbury branch of NZAC I have also enjoyed editing the newsletter and been a member of selection panels for NZAC full membership.

About me I think of therapy as a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle together. As we fit the pieces we make sense of things. People are empowered to self direct their own lives. I'm passionate about helping people to grow and recognise the richness in their own lives. I have learnt so much from my clients over the years. A therapist needs to be multitalented and to make the right fit with clients. The relationship between client and therapist is really important and crucial for our time together to be effective. To this end I offer a free 1/2 hour appointment for us to meet prior to commencing therapy. If people prefer to see someone else I am always happy to help with a referral if required.
