Experience
“I feel passionate about being able to offer tools to enable change and privileged to be part of this process” I have over 25 years experience of working with adults, couples and youth with special interests and experience in eating problems, trauma, Alcohol and Drug Service and community Mental Health. I studied socialwork in Germany and came to New Zealand in 1982. All my employment has been in a counselling capacity. After leaving work in the mental health sector I started private practice in 1993, originally at the Health and Awareness Centre moving the Durham Centre in 2007. I also hold a clinic in the rural sector (previously Banks Peninsula and currently in North Canterbury). I provide supervision to other socialworkers, mental health professionals and people working in community settings.
About meI originally trained in ‘Client-centred therapy’ and ’Behaviour Modification’. Through ongoing training I have acquired a broad spectrum of therapy skills. Nowadays I describe my approach as ‘eclectic’- enabling me to draw on a variety of skills to being able to offer what suits my client best. I believe strongly in empowering the individual. My own therapy journey and integrated traumatic experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. My working class roots enable me to relate to people from diverse backgrounds. I enjoy horse riding and gardening for recreation.
